Earning Credit Toward Your Associate and/or Bachelor Degrees

There are many ways in which you can earn credit toward fulfilling your accredited Associate and Bachelor's Degree requirements.
Transfer Credit
Credit earned at other accredited academic institutions.  
  • Associate Degree  
    A student may transfer up to a maximum of 30 semester hours with a course grade of "C" or better. Official transcripts are required. 
  • Bachelor Degree  
    A student may transfer up to a maximum of 90 semester hours with a course grade of "C" or better. Official transcripts are required.
Credit by Examination  
Southwest University accepts credit by examination from:  

  • CLEP - The College Level Examination Program

  • ACT-PEP -- American College Testing

  • DANTES - Defense Activity for non-Traditional Education  

Specialized Training  
Military Service / Courses    
Prior / Experiential Learning  
Knowledge gained by experience that can be related to a college course.  
  • Associate and/or Bachelor Degree  
    A student may be awarded fifteen (15) semester hours for Prior / Experiential Learning Credit, equivalent to specific courses in the degree program.  
Non-Collegiate-Sponsored Instructions  
Prior Learning Assessment
A prepared portfolio to support requested academic credit.  
Completing Southwest University Courses



Southwest University has reserved the right to accept or reject any or all academic credits offered for transfer.
Free Evaluation
You may submit a REQUEST FOR EVALUATION.  There is no charge for this service.  Upon receipt of your request, the University will review all of the information you provide.  You will then be advised of the total amount of credit that can be applied toward fulfilling the degree requirement.
