Distance Education is important because it allows persons throughout the world to attain degrees or enhance their career/professional development, regardless of location.
How long has Southwest University been offering Distance Education degree programs?
Southwest University has been offering Distance Education degree programs for more than 20 years, developing a reputation as a leader in the Distance Education field.
Is Southwest University accredited?
Yes, Southwest University is an accredited member of the Distance Education and Training Council, 1601 18th Street NW, Washington, DC 20009, (202) 234-5100.

The Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council is listed by the United States Department of Education as a nationally recognized accrediting agency and is a member of the Council of Higher Education.
Why is accreditation important?
Accreditation gives public recognition to an institution that meets established standards. Accreditation assures each student that the institution has approved programs of study, qualified instructors, adequate facilities, and approved recruitment and admissions policies. Also, that the institution operates on a sound financial basis.
Can I use my veterans educational benefits to pay my tuition?
Southwest University participates in the education programs sponsored by the Department of Veterans Affairs. The University has trained personnel who will assist prospective students in enrollment and processing with the VA.

Prospective students who are eligible for GI Bill or VEAP benefits and are seeking tuition assistance under one of these programs need to first contact the local VA office or education officer to receive an eligibility certificate.
Is there a Tuition Assistance program for active military personnel and reservists?
Military members on active duty and reservists eligible for tuition assistance and DANTES benefits may contact our specialized personnel to assist prospective students in enrollment and processing.
May I receive prior and/or experiential learning credit toward fulfilling the degree requirements?
Yes, the Bachelor's degree student could receive up to 30 semester hours for prior and/or experiential learning.

The graduate student could receive a maximum of 9 semester hours for prior and/or experiential learning.

The Admissions Office will provide full information and assistance for students requesting this type of credit.
What does Southwest University accept as transfer credit?
Transfer credit for the Bachelor Degree is awarded for courses completed at an accredited post-secondary institution in which a grade of "C" or better was received, and the course is equivalent to Southwest University courses.

Transfer credit for the Masters Degree is awarded for courses in which a grade of "B" or better was received,and the course is equivalent to a Southwest University course. 
Are Southwest University credits transferable?
Yes, however, as is the case with any college or university, the acceptance of credits from Southwest University is at the discretion of the accepting institution.
How are Southwest University programs delivered?
Southwest University Programs are delivered via the use of textbooks and Study Guides.

Our programs allow you flexibility. You can complete a course according to your schedule. Our distance learning programs afford the working adult the opportunity to fulfill work, family and community obligations and still work toward individual degree goals.
How long does it take to complete a course?
Most study courses can be completed within 6 to 10 weeks. The University allows up to 10 weeks to complete each course.
How do I complete a course?
Each course utilizes a recognized up-to-date text and a Study Guide. The Study Guide is prepared in conjunction with the textbook and serves as an instructional tool that "guides´┐Ż the student through the course. The Study Guide is easy to follow and lets you know what you must complete and forward to the University.

A qualified faculty member, as well as administration and staff, are always available to assist you via e-mail, fax, phone and U.S. mail.
What do I do if I have questions regarding a course?
Communication is of prime importance at Southwest University. Our administration, faculty and staff are available on a regular basis via e-mail, fax, phone, and U.S. mail. You will receive a quick response to all of your questions. Every communication is acknowledged.
Are there exams?
Yes, after the successful completion of each course a proctored exam is required. The proctored exam(s) are open-book.
Who can I use as a Proctor?
A proctor can be a teacher, workplace supervisor, minister or librarian. A proctor cannot be a family member or friend. A proctor should hold a position of integrity.
How long do I have to complete a degree program?
Enrollment is for 24 months. Most students will complete their program within that time. However, if needed, students may request an extension.
Do I have to pay the full tuition at the time of enrollment?
No, after making the required down payment, you may make monthly payments on the remaining balance. No annual interest is charged on the balance.
Does Southwest University enroll international students?
Yes, international students are welcome to enroll into our degree programs. All international students must be able to correspond with the University and respond to the course instructions in English. Students with Non-U.S. educational credentials must obtain a foreign credentials evaluation from an independent U.S. Evaluation Service.
Do I need to travel to Louisiana at any time?
No, you do not have to travel to Louisiana to complete your Southwest University degree requirements. We deliver personalized quality education directly to you. There are no on-campus residency requirements. However, you are welcome to visit!
Do I come to the University to receive my degree?
At this time, Southwest University does not have a formal graduation ceremony. A student is welcome to come to the University to have his/her degree awarded (many do so), but it is not required. 
Who accepts Southwest University degrees?
Southwest University Degrees have been recognized and accepted at local, state and federal levels. Major corporations, the U.S. government, and the armed services have approved our programs for tuition reimbursement.
